It is with a heavy heart that I pass along that one of our members has passed away.
Larry J. Stivers, 82, of Champaign passed away at 12:32 p.m. Jan. 7, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Champaign.
Larry was born May 31, 1925, at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a son of Eugene and Helen Peck Stivers. He married Dorothy Garrett on June 14, 1948, in Champaign. She passed away Jan. 6, 2000.
Survivors include one son, John Stivers of Champaign; and two sisters, Mary Brainard of New Bern, N.C., and Martha Crossman of Lake Wales, Fla.
Mr. Stivers was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society and collected Colt pistols. He also enjoyed both traveling and gem stone collecting. Larry worked for Illinois Central Railroad in the 1940s and later worked for Amtrak as a ticket clerk, retiring in 1990. He was in the Navy during World War II.
